what is the "hide" rule?

I was looking at CBJN, and there is a casino with great rules, but one of the rules listed was "hide". I looked up the rule to see what it meant, and it was "dealer shows player cards only when necessary to decide winner."

What does this mean? Are the cards dealt face down? Is card counting possible with this rule?

I believe this would be referring to the dealer not showing their hole card unless necessary. For example, you are playing heads up and bust. The dealer puts their hole card in the discard tray without revealing it. Not sure how common it is but I have seen it before. Also not really sure what the point is. As for counting, it should be treated as any other unseen card, such as those behind the cut card. Could be a pain in the ass if you were trying to keep a side count I guess.....

I know the place, no real problem at all, maybe the best 6d in the USA, can be easily beat with basic strategy and counting for strategy deviations and a 1 to 4 spread playing 2 spots.

The Atlantis on Paradise Island takes this even a step further, on the 6:5 games. If you bust, you're supposed to throw your cards in FACE DOWN, and the dealer does NOT expose them (not even to double-check that you really DID bust). When you double down, you have to put your cards face down on the table rather than turning them up the traditional way. You're NOT allowed to peek at your double down card. If the dealer busts, your cards NEVER get exposed.

I can only imagine that some misguided person in management has implemented these rules, on the ridiculous thinking that it will deter counters. (what a joke!)

In reality, they're only shooting THEMSELVES in the foot. I have observed more than one person taking advantage of this stupid idiot rule (and because of it; playing that 6:5 game at a pretty good advantage)

Exactly. Or as in the case of what these players were doing; whenever they would bust they would tuck their hand & hope the dealer would bust, whereupon they would get paid. If the dealer made a hand, all cards DID get turned over, of course. It's only when the dealer would BUST that the trick would work.

I personally think that that move is nothing more than shot-pulling and at least slightly unethical. And because it's a foreign country, if one were to do it TOO often; possibly illegal. But then again - as I was watching them pull it off, I couldn't help but think that the idiot casino DESERVED what they were getting.
