The single best shoe I ever played was a newly shuffled 8 decks in Atlantic City, heads up against the dealer. This was many years ago, so I don't remember all the rule parameters, but I think all Atlantic City rules were the same at that time.
I bought in for $300.00, and after the one shoe, I cashed out for exactly $5000.00. My basic bet was 50.00. I have always done well with hand shuffled 8 decks.

Pitboss noticed me wonging a lot and heard the players complaining so he told me I had to stay at the same table.

Fred, it almost certainly was 8 decks S17. It's only in the last 2 or 3 years I believe that H17 even started happening for AC and it first made its debut at Bally's.

I guess that's when the players that are doing this for fun would stop playing and those of us that are after the money would keep playing. I suspect, you would keep playing.

KJ, it's certainly beatable. I can't speak for other people but just straight counting with that little penetration, would be boring for me. Chances of you going hours without raising your bet would increase a lot. As for the go west young man comment... Who you calling young man? I'm older than you :laugh: (I know it's a famous quote) Truth is, Vegas from what I've read is getting to the point where it's only marginably better. For the green chipper, thankfully there are more options available but even that's diminishing fast as the casinos are getting greedier and greedier.

For the green chipper, thankfully there are more options available but even that's diminishing fast as the casinos are getting greedier and greedier.

But seriously, the strength of Vegas is the quantity of games. With so many games in close proximity, table hopping, which is nearly impossible back east now is still a viable option here. Plus the conditions are a little more fluid, including rules. In AC the rules are pretty much constant. You know which casino has which rules and that rarely changes, so it's just a matter of shopping for pen. In Vegas, in addition to shopping for pen, it is not uncommon to walk into a place that you play weekly and find the rules have changed from the week before and not always for the worse. Some store change the rules depending on what crowd, convention is in town. One way they do so is to open or not open certain tables at different times. A couple of the MGM properties are famous for this.

Nah, I'm not offended. I would imagine if Vegas does continually make rule changes, it probably doesn't involve H17 or S17 since that means an entire change on the layout of the table which means more expenses for the casino. Either way, it must be tougher for you because even CBJN doesn't keep people up to date ont he day to day changes. You can't really go scouting all the casinos either because of the sheer number of them so I'd imagine you have a rotation of 4 or 5 casinos you stick to unless you happen to hear of a good promotion or rule changes. I'm not sure why a casino would change the rules based on a convention or what not unless it involved say the MIT alumni association :laugh:

Changes can involve H17/S17. They don't change the felt, just don't open certain tables. MC and other MGM properties are famous for this. Sometimes low limit S17 is open, sometimes not. Same with side bets. There is a 'local' casino that offers a very beatable site bet that I like to play, but sometimes that particular table is open and sometimes it is not. And I mean sometimes that table is not open for weeks at a time. Penetration is the same way. Very fluid. That is why scouting is so important. CBJN is great, but it is only one tool. It is a picture of what conditions where on a few days at the beginning of the month. Networking and keeping your ears open is also a good tool, but neither is a substitute for doing your own homework.

I have a much larger rotation than 4 or 5. That was the whole purpose of moving here for me. Quantity of games. I didn't want to play the same 3 or 4 games over and over and over and see the same faces almost daily, like when I played AC.
