Probably. Cheating is cheating, although seeing a trusting elderly person treated like that was especially infuriating. And also the Golden Rule is very important to me. Someday some savages might be jumping me in the parking lot for my bankroll and the only one able to help me might be some drunken ploppy. I'd prefer he "get involved".shadroch said:

Bravo. People, and especially the trusting elderly, are taken advantage of every day. And since aging is an equal opportunity proposition (someday we'll all be elderly) you performed an honorable deed. I never liked bullies, and I've always found myself stepping up when I've seen wrong-doing. Too often, too many people stand and watch when the helpless are victimized.Automatic Monkey said:

I did something similar a few months ago.
I was at a casino in Oklahoma (I know enough and I don't play) practicing my backcount.
They have this promotion where you can place a side bet of fifty cents and if one of several things happen you win a progressive pot. One of the things is a suited 6-7-8.
Well this ploppy had his main bet of $150 down as well as the side bet. The suited 6-7-8 came up and this ploppy won the progressive pot of around $4500. The dealer announced it, everbody clapped and the player was paid off.
The dealer proceeded to draw to a 17. The dealer then paid everyone off who had higher then 17, everyone but the player who hit the suited 6-7-8 that is. The dealer then was in the process of picking up the cards. I then said "hey dealer you didn't pay this guy off", point to the suited 6-7-8's.
The dealer then went blank. I said "he won the jackpot and he won his main bet also so you owe him another $150, he had a suited 6-7-8 so that's 21 and you had 17, you owe him another $150". The dealer then called the pit boss who didn't know anything. At that point the player said "it's allright, I won the jackpot", seemingly not wanting to cause a stir. I said nothing further, if the player doesn't want help I won't force it upon him.
But the pit was already involved at that point. The pit said "did you pay him for his win?" and the dealer said no. "Pay him" the pit said. The dealer then gave me a "go-to-hell" look for making him look stupid and the player gave me $50.
I don't play at these casino's in Oklahoma because of the fifty cent ante so I guess I didn't lose out on anything. And anyway the pit wasn't mad or anything.
I guess people who have a problem with helping someone who is getting cheated just don't have a clue. Helping this player cost me nothing and I can look in the mirror in the morning with a straight face.

The stupid Casinos in Australia recently raised the minimum on most bets on roulette to $10 (even though all bets have the same house edge). So I always place a bet right at the last second when the dealer is watching the wheel and waving no more bets that is below the minimum.
One time they didn't want to pay me after a I sneakidly laid a $5 chip on a 6 box that spun up. The nob jocky had the nerve to actually push my chip across 2 boxes from the outside because $5 is only allowed on 2 numbers or 1 number. Needless to say I eventually got my $30.
This same thing happened in blackjack when a auto shuffler stuffed up. They didn't want to play out of the hand but the law (we have laws that govern exactally how a game has to be played out) stated that they had to play out the hand with the cards that were already in the out shoot (which I could see after the opened the box). I sat on 12 against a ten to win from a 58, after they tried to push my bet back to me. I can't believe they are so uppety over just 1 bet.

When the dealer makes a mistake and wants to talk you out of it and not call the pit, he deserves some kind of punishment and should only be pissed at himself.
And does this dealer expect tokes?

Everyone makes mistakes. When the dealer makes a mistake and just calls the pit over to verify it, he will not get into any trouble at all unless he does these things constantly.NDN21 said:

At the baccarat tables the dealers make mistakes all the time. Once time everyone loaded player so I went banker and there was a mistake with the banker drawing that caused me to loose. I wait for a second to see if any of the big 'winners' would kick me back to cover my 'loss', when none did I demanded that the banker shouldn't have drawn and that it was a win to the banker. As you can imagine all hell broke loose because most players had already pick up there chips. In the end the house just paid me and continued on.

Counters are trained to look out for themselves, so it's nice to help out when possible. I also believe in what goes around comes around. It may not help you in cards, but something else in life. Congrats.

That's OK man. It didn't have anything to do with you, why would you care what I did? At least I heap my insults on pit bosses instead of other players. Other players can provide very high EV plays for me. All the pit boss can do is give me a comp I don't want or need.
