I don't think that they even bother to rate anyone with an average bet under $25.

Harrah's Total Rewards comp system is aimed primarily at slot players. It is difficult to earn much at table games unless you are betting black or above.

So to sum it all up it all depends on marketing and we all know Harrahs have a huge marketing department. Just about everyone gets something.

These RFID system tables have a computer screen near the player at third base. When you sit down your players card is run through a terminal and the pit punches you into your position. You position yourself not at third or first base so you have a better opportunity to either play two hands or just switch circles. You are only getting credit and your spread is only being recorded on one betting circle and if you just use another circle or go to two, unless the pit walks over and puts your players number into that other circle, the computer just records an unknown player playing there. So perhaps you were flat betting position 2 but now you are an unknown with a max bet on position 3. Not rocket science but it works.

In the first place,there are no $5 tables at Harrahs Las Vegas. I'd question the expertise of anyone who wants to give advice on their games that doesn't know this.
In the second place,he is mistaken about them not rating people betting under $25. Thats the MGM-Mirage Players Club,not Harrahs.Harrahs LV had a sign in their players club saying they rated table players on $10 miinimums.
In December,while staying at The Wynn,we went to Harrahs as my friend never had a TR card and we took advantage of their $100 free roll.We played exactly 32 minutes and got the $100. He has since gotten at least eight nights free offered to him.
If you want to seperate " marketing comps" from whatever kind of comps,go ahead. I don't particulary care where my free rooms and meals are coming from.What is important is that they keep coming.I average ten or so feebies a month.You started by saying ten hours of play would get a $1 off coupon for Mickey Ds,and now you are saying anyone can get free rooms.

There are card counters and there are comp counters.I'm not sure why you would be asking an expert card counter about comp counting. I've never,repeat never, met someone who's an expert in both.

Marketing and comps from playing are to different animals. Lets both agree on that and leave it like that.

The actual take from BJ at Harrahs is over 10%. They give you comps based on 5%.Harrahs ends up giving double comps. No matter how much or how little you get from the pitbosses and your players points,their marketing dept. will comp you as well.
It's not a matter of what they will give you,it's a matter of how much you can take before they say no.
You can believe it,or not. I really don't care. I'm getting mine.Thats all I really care about in the long run.

Back to the question, which I believe was "should I use a player's card". And I think the answer is yes. You'll get comps with it, and comps are worth something. If you're a black chipper that wants to have a long career back-counting, I wouldn't get rated.

Question for the house - does it make sense to use a players card at properties you're not staying at? If you're doing counting, methinks not. And a good rule of thumb I've always heard is to not gamble heavily at a place you're staying.

So might using a card at a property you're not staying at be a good reason to draw some free stay offers from the hotel marketing dept?

Well, if in a strange or new environment, I'd be wary of using a players card anyway. Most importantly, you'll have no idea what their heat level is like, and you don't want to get backed off with a players card. But also, you're not going to earn much comp in an hours play.

Hey, last trip in vegas I put in a few hours of play at a MGM property. Was able to get a buffet comp for five, and now I've gotten some random marketing offers (not particularly awesome) offers from some of their hotels. Course, I had to play for a few hours, and played more conservatively. (Incidentally, it's apparantly more convenient for hosts/vip services to handle comps rather than the pit, the PC was hoping I could just charge everything to my room... except I didn't have one).

There is a time and a place for everything.I'll let one of the mathletes give you the exact difference,but how much theoretical loss do you think there is between Harrahs 6D bad $10 game and Terribles good $10 DD game?
At 5 hours of 45 hands(225 hands total) X an avg $15 bet,you are putting about $3700 at risk. A game with a .05 HA will cost you about $20. With a 1.5 HA,it might cost you $60.Less than a bet an hour difference. If you are simply a BS player,which I am not.

Has anyone ever tried using another person's players card? I find them all the time on the floor usually in the slots area.

Only use one with the players (friends) permission. zg
