Smut peddlers on the strip

I don't walk the strip, so no loser with a titty brochure ever bugs me.

I have no problem with "smut" and I won't support any morality police, but I do think litter sucks!

If some little kid sees these pamphlets, I gotta wonder WTF mom and dad are doing dragging the poor kid around the Vegas strip...this ain't Anaheim or Orlando.

A friend of mine tells me the casinos own the sidewalks in front of their establishments. I suppose they could chase the smut peddlers off the strip if they really wanted to. It's probably too much hassle.

I've also heard the casinos are trying to put pressure on prostitution operating on the strip. I assume that means the "low cost" prostitutes. I doubt the casinos have any interest in ridding the strip of the high dollar pros. Beautiful girls in very expensive gowns and jewelry add a Hollywood kind of glamor to the casino stage.

Not only are the pornslappers all illegal aliens, so are the prostitutes they deliver, specifically the services that offer everything-but-American girls. Many of these girls have been trafficked. I have no objection to prostitution per se but human traffickers are some of the worst criminals in the world.

This is reason enough to secure our borders and rout those pornslappers.

I see no reason at all for parents to bring there kids to Vegas. I don't care what anyone says it is no place for kids.

Today while walking the strip I saw for the first time 2 street women, crack whores, drug addicts or whatever they are sitting on the pedestrian bridges that go over the strip holding there infant children and ther signs begging for money. Does Nevada have no child protective service? I feel terrible for these kids being brought up that way.

Again there is no way I would have ever even thought of dragging my kids up and down the strip. The walking is to much for kids, let alone exposing them to some pretty disgusting sights.

Yeah I agree. Back in the day Vegas was a haven for gamblers and sin, but then in the early 90s with the opening of The Mirage and other casinos it started to be a more "family friendly place". Now it's headed back the other way.

At least that's my understanding of it.

But I was bored in my hotel room most of the time as my dad was on a business trip and my mom was gambling. I remember thinking that I hated that place since I was too young to understand why adults love it. There's really not that much in Vegas suitable for kids. Kids can't go to the casino and watch people bet more than their life savings on each hand. Even the roller coasters are not for young kids.

I had the opposite experience. I went when I was probably 12 and I loved it. The rides at Circus Circus, the roller coaster at NYNY, Gameworks, all the awesome shows, the Volcano at Wynn, the fountain show at the Bellagio...

Fell in love right away!

Not sure about the volcano at Wynn reference, but other that that I am with you Dye. I luv Vegas. The excitement, the people, the weather most of the year. The fact that I can support myself playing blackjack is just a huge bonus. After living here for a while now, I think if every blackjack table went to CSM and I decided not to play anymore, I would still choose to live here.

I think another reason why I didn't like Vegas as a kid was because I went in the middle of the summer.

To be honest, I still hate gambling. My blackjack and poker play is an investment, not a gamble. I rarely play the slots or other -EV games.

...which (summer) will eventually get to kewljason as he walks from home and travels up and down the strip. (Trust me, he will get a car, if he has not already.) But honestly, the heat never phased me in the least during July visits as I woke up in my AC-ed house or hotel room, climbed into my AC-ed car, ate breakfast, lunch and dinner in my favorite AC-ed restaurants, shopped in AC-ed stores, and played in all the AC-ed casinos.

Play golf? The dead of winter never stopped an avid golfer on the east coast, and I doubt summer in the desert will stop them either. But I'm not a golfer, so I don't really know.

PS-- Barbecues are cool outdoors with those water-powered misters strategically strung around the area, and an outdoor pool nearby.

Did purchase a vehichle a couple months back, aslan. Not so I could drive the strip in air conditioning. I still won't use the car on strip days. Use it more for hitting the outlying games. When I play the strip, I am fine with walking...even in the heat. I live two blocks off the strip, one block if I use the back/side door of either one of two different casino's so I am not out in the heat long. Walking the strip, you are always popping in and out of casino's, so that's no biggie, plus there is always the monorail. Yes it's a little out of the way at the back of the properties, but at $1 a ride for local's it will be a cheap, air conditioned way to get up and down some of the strip.

Last year I escaped the desert for most of the summer as I still had an apartment under lease back east. This year that is not the case. I am going east for 2 weeks in July for a friends wedding and 10 year HS reunion and have a planned 10 day trip to Reno in August. Other than that I am going to battle the desert heat. I have been here many different times during summer months prior to moving here, but I suspect there is a difference between dealing with the heat for a number of days or a week or so and dealing with it day after day after day all summer. That is why I tried to plan a couple breaks. Will let you know how it goes.

Good thinking, all of it. I only mentioned it because my friends who live in Vegas year round all complain about the summer heat. Me, I'm like you-- I've had a smattering of experience with it, but have not been subject to the summer heat year after year. My plan is hopefully to have a condo somewhere else for the summertime, such as Reno, somewhere in Arizona (higher elevations), or even back East.

Perhaps you could take a trip to Pennsylvania for a month during the summer and play at all the PA casinos.
